About Maple Avenue Pizzeria
A family tradition of authentic pizza and neighborhood hospitality
Our Family Story
Maple Avenue Pizzeria began in 1985 when the Rossi family, having recently emigrated from Naples, Italy, brought their dream of sharing authentic Italian pizza with the Pittsburgh community. What started as a small storefront on Maple Avenue has grown into a beloved neighborhood institution, but our commitment to traditional methods and family values has never wavered.
Giuseppe Rossi, our founder, learned the art of pizza making from his father in the bustling pizzerias of Naples. Every morning, he would wake before dawn to prepare the dough, carefully following techniques passed down through generations. His philosophy was simple: use the finest ingredients, respect tradition, and never compromise on quality.
Today, three generations of the Rossi family continue this legacy. Maria Rossi, Giuseppe's daughter, oversees the kitchen operations, ensuring that every pizza meets the exacting standards her father established. Her children, the third generation, now work alongside her, learning the family craft and preparing to carry the tradition forward.
Our family has grown, and so has our connection to the neighborhood. We've celebrated countless birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries at our tables. We've watched children grow into adults who now bring their own children to enjoy the same pizzas they loved as youngsters. Maple Avenue Pizzeria isn't just a restaurant—it's a member of the community.
Our Cooking Philosophy
At the heart of everything we do is a simple yet powerful philosophy: great pizza requires patience, respect for ingredients, and unwavering commitment to tradition. We believe that shortcuts have no place in authentic pizza making, and that every element—from the fermentation of our dough to the selection of our toppings—deserves careful attention.
We reject the fast-food approach that has become all too common in the pizza industry. Instead, we embrace the slow food movement that our ancestors practiced naturally. Our dough ferments for days, not hours. Our sauce simmers gently, preserving the delicate flavor of tomatoes. Our wood-fired oven reaches the perfect temperature before the first pizza enters.
This philosophy extends beyond the kitchen. We believe that great food must be served with great hospitality. Every guest who walks through our doors is treated like family. We take the time to explain our menu, share the story behind our recipes, and ensure that each dining experience is memorable.
Quality over quantity, tradition over trends, and craftsmanship over convenience—these are the principles that guide every decision we make at Maple Avenue Pizzeria.
Our Community Commitment
Maple Avenue Pizzeria was built by this neighborhood, and we've never forgotten our roots. From our earliest days, we've believed that being part of a community means giving back as much as we receive. Our commitment to Pittsburgh extends far beyond serving great pizza.
We actively support local schools, participating in fundraising events and sponsoring sports teams. Our dining room has hosted countless community meetings, from neighborhood association gatherings to charity organization meetings. When our neighbors need help, we're among the first to step forward.
We believe that a local business has a responsibility to contribute to the community's vitality. We source ingredients from regional suppliers whenever possible, supporting other local businesses. We hire from the neighborhood, providing jobs and training to local residents. We participate in neighborhood cleanup efforts and support local cultural festivals.
This community focus isn't just good business—it's who we are. The Rossi family lives in this neighborhood. Our children attend local schools. We shop at the same grocery stores and attend the same churches and community events as our customers. We're not just a business operating in the community—we are part of the community.
